Congrats! You booked your families fall session! Everything is great until you remember, βOh no! what do I wear?
Here is your guide to help you know: What to wear and ways to prepare for your family session!
Because, planning your outfit (let alone your whole families outfits) for pictures can be daunting! And then getting everyone out the door in time can be an olympic sport. However, it does not have to be! In the guide I will help you pick your outfits and prepare everyone for your family session! (So that you enjoy it all and are not stressed!) *throws confetti!* π
WHAT TO WEAR
1. Comfortable is best! Avoid wearing tight clothes that you have to adjust a lot when you put them on. You want to be comfortable and be able to move easily! (AND it is actually way more slimming in loser and semi-fitted clothing! π
2. Pattern check:
Patterns are great, however, they can also be distracting. Typically one to two patterns looks the best, with the exception of 2 being subtle and in the same color family.
3. Embrace Simplicity:
Less is often more in family photos. Avoid busy patterns and logos that can distract from your family! Stick with solid colors, subtle patterns, and textures for a timeless appeal.
4. Play with Texture and Layers:
Again, TEXTURES and LAYERS! They are literally the best! Texture and layers can add depth and personality to your photos. Consider fabrics like denim, cardigans, sweaters, or textured jackets for that cozy touch! Here is a link to a Pinterest board with some ideas.
5. Let Kids Be Comfortable:
Kids will be kids, and their comfort is key. Let them wear outfits they love and feel at ease in. Happy kids make for the best candid moments. If you can, bring an extra shirt or outfit just incase of any spills on the way or during the session!
6. Don’t Forget the Footwear:
Shoes matter too! Coordinate footwear with your outfits to complete the cohesive look. Cool white sneakers, brown/black dress shoes, heeled boots, etc. all aid in giving your pictures personality! I just suggest making sure they are wiped down if at all possible!
7. Stay True to Yourselves:
Above all, be authentic. Your family photos should reflect your unique bonds and personalities. If there’s a special piece of clothing that holds sentimental value, include it without hesitation.
Remember, our goal is to capture all the authentic joy & personality that defines your family. Your outfit matter, but they are not everything! So do what you can to prepare and then let it go and trust your photographer with the rest. I promise what shines through will be the love for each other. So hug them tight and enjoy your moments together!
8. Shop your own closets first! Don’t try to tackle buying all new clothes! π BUT if you do need something to add. Here’s some places I love to recommend: Madewell, Gap, H&M, Oldnavy.
WAYS TO PREPARE
Now, here are some TIPS & TRICKS to help you prepare for your session! And help it go smoother!
FIRST, For little ones (or even adults) eat at a non messy snack before your session so everyone is happier & full! π snack ideas: crackers and cheese, banana/apple, granola bar, you get the picture. Only clear liquids too just to protect against spills!
MOMS: Again, I always want you to be yourself and be comfortable for pictures! However, a little extra make up really pops in pictures! Donβt feel like you have to apply a ton, just doing a little more or giving yourself time to do your makeup & hair really makes a difference! Maybe ask dad or a friend to watch the kiddos so you can have some time for yourself to get ready & enjoy it! π
BABIES & TODDLERS: Accidents sometimes happen. Bring an extra outfit just in case there needs to be a quick change!
AFTER YOUR SESSION: Plan a fun thing to do after your session! Go get ice cream or let the kids pick dinner and make photos a fun memory as a family!
